The project I am taking part in is about doing ecological surveys on school grounds. The team already started last week without me (I was enjoying the sun in Menorca) and I started on Wednesday. We were at Englefield Green Infant School. The team introduced me to the different equipment, including the moth trap they set up the day before, mammal traps which didn't seem to be tripping and trail cameras that have captured many feet! My main interest is ornithology and so I was allowed to do a bird survey. On Thursday, I was more prepared and this time we were at Strode's College which I currently attend. I did a bird survey, a pollinator survey, a butterfly survey and helped to set up pitfall traps (which are used to capture insects on the ground) and the moth trap. The following morning I did another bird survey and looked in the moth trap, trail cameras and longworth traps which the others setted up. We saw rabbits on the trail cameras and caught 3 field mice in the longworth traps - very cute. A good start to the project if I don't say so myself!
